South Korean envoy visits Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun visited Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Monday (Feb 15). After being briefed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and World Food Programme (WFP) representatives, Ambassador Lee look around the camp and engaged with Rohingyas and local host community.

Earlier on Sunday, the Korean envoy also visited Moheshkhali Island and observed the situation of Digital Island Moheshkhali Project which was implemented with the support of Korea Telecom (KT) and KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) from February 2016 to March 2020.

The Digital Island Moheshkhali is one of the ICT related projects supported by the Republic of Korea to realize the vision of Digital Bangladesh.

Aiming at providing improved access to and quality of social service such as education, health and e-commerce to Moheshkhali Island inhabitants, the project started with a tripartite MOU between the Korea Telecom (KT), Bangladesh ICT Division and IOM(International Organization for Migration) in 2016 and was officially launched in April 2017with the presence of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
